I am going to Cleveland tomorrow night because my sister is getting married on July 4. Any recommendations for fun things to do besides the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Car related museums or things to do?

Thanks for any tips. Congratulations on your title - I hate the Warriors, so it made me very happy. Thank you for allowing me to sports-hate vicariously through your triumph.

I haven’t been there recently, but I’ve heard the Crawford Auto Museum is really good. It’s in a cool area too, around a lot of other museums and restaurants.

Public square just opened downtown; it was designed by the same firm that did the high line in NYC. It’s small but it’s right in the center of downtown so there’s plenty to do around there. Ohio City/The Flats is also a really nice area to spend some time in. Apparently there’s a cars and coffee at the Starbucks in Garfield Heights as well, which I’ll be at Saturday.

My apologies. No one should have to go to Cleveland.

As others have stated, check out the Crawford. I had the pleasure of going there while in Cleveland last year. It has two floors of cars to look at. The top floor consists of a lot of vehicles that were made in the Cleveland area. The bottom has a mixture of everything from old to a couple of concepts. There’s also a P-51 Mustang and the gondola from the Spirit of Akron. Very cool place to go to.

If you have the time, there’s another museum down in Canton that has some pretty neat things as well.

Melt Bar & Grilled in either Lakewood, Independence or Cleveland Heights

Cedar Point, as someone else suggested (hour or so away, but fun).

Crawford Collection

USS Cod

William G Mather and the Great Lakes Science Center

I would suggest the Cleveland Indians, but they’re out of town until 7/4.

Goodyear, Bridgestone/Firestone, and BF Goodrich were all from Akron, and those 3 provide decent sightseeing in Akron (about 20-30 minutes from Cleveland). About 20 minutes from there is the Goodyear Blimp hangar at Wingfoot Lake.

Edit: Journey & the Doobie Brothers at Blossom Music Center, if you’re into that.

For fun other than the museums, when you go out to eat check out Cleveland’s Hofbrauhaus. Little Italy has great food, 20 restaurants to choose from. The Flats and near the stadiums there is entertainment. Michael Symon’s B Spot restaurants in a few places if you want an outstanding burger. Beckys Bar is an institution in itself. The House of Blues sometimes has major acts going but it might be tough to get tickets. There are the Rocksino in Northfield, The Grog Shop, Music Box, and other places for music. It can be dangerous in some areas at night, during the day and early evening its pretty safe. Its much like NYC in that aspect, just be aware of your surroundings and keep in the busy areas where there are more people about.

Little Italy was awesome. I ate at this awesome little place on a street corner there. I just can’t remember the name of it. I was up there for two weeks for training when I worked at Progressive and actually really enjoyed my stay. I want to take my wife back someday so she can see the places that I got to see.

I had a chance to ruminate on this for a bit. The question really depends on how deep into Cleveland culture you want to get.

There’s tons of cool places to go downtown between E. 9th and Ontario, including Public Square as someone else mentioned. People rave about Playhouse Square too.

If you’re into good beer, Great Lakes Brewing Company is nearby (the food is also excellent). The West Side Market is right near GLBC and is a fascinating place if you’re going to be doing any actual food preparation somewhere. Parking is a nightmare, and all the area businesses watch for people parking in their lots and going to the market. They will have your car towed. Despite that, the surrounding neighborhood is full of great places as well. Be careful going too far down W 25th, though...it starts to get rough soon.

On Memphis Ave. on the west side there’s cool neighborhood bars that are less touristy, including Murphy’s Law (the actual bar exterior used for the Warsaw Tavern in the Drew Carey Show). I’ve never been there, but I want to go just because of the show. I’ve been to Dina’s (a little further down the street) lots of times and I love it. It’s pub grub, nothing setting the gourmet food world on fire. Beware, these are the real honest-to-God Clevelanders.

Further out of town on Lorain Ave. is Fat Heads Brewery, which is also a great place to go for excellent food & drink. There are great breweries in Akron as well, namely Thirsty Dog and Hoppin’ Frog.

If you’re in the mood for travel to Akron (where I actually live) besides the aforementioned breweries, you can see the original homes of Goodyear, Firestone, and (with a little work) BF Goodrich. The minor-league Akron Rubber Ducks are always a fun time and relatively inexpensive to see. The original Goodyear Blimp airdock is located at Akron Fulton airport (currently owned by Lockheed Martin, but not for long) and is where Goodyear built the FG1-D version of the F4U Corsair fighter plane during WWII. From there, it’s not a long trip out to Wingfoot Lake to see the current home of the Blimp (actually a Zeppelin).

Finally, the main showroom of Summit Motorsports is right off of I-76 at State Route 532. They usually have customer cars on display turntables in the front windows, so that’s fun to see.
